In modern detective fictions, take ‘The Purloined Letter’ and ‘Kindaichi Case Files’ as examples; there are intense stereotyping of the image and gender of the detectives (fictional detectives). Secondly, ‘The Purloined Letter’ used deduction by human behaviour and psychology while ‘Kindaichi Case Files’ used deduction by material evidence as the main strategies in their inference. Thirdly, from the norms of the detective stories, it reflects the issue of crime and criminality in the society as well as the challengeable Law and Police system.
